Spring News for MMS
MMS consultants Judy Strother Taylor and Jerry Sherk have been very busy over the past few months. They have continued their monthly mentor and mentee training at the U.S. Air Force Space Missel Systems in Los Angeles, Colorado Springs and Albuquerque. MMS is in their third year of assisting SMC Mentoring. Additionally, MMS is kicking off another cycle of the Federal Executive Board Leadership Associates Mentoring Program. This effort pairs mid-level federal employees with senior level employees; MMS has been helping the Federal Executive Board with this program for the past 11 years.
Judy and Jerry recently went to Orlando for the YouthBuild USA conference, and to Dallas for the Home Builders Institute conference; Judy and Jerry are coaches for both of these national mentoring initiatives. Judy, Jerry and Stacy Dertien (another MMS consultant) recently finished the fourth in a series of statewide trainings for the AmeriCorps Mentoring Program, an effort that matches AmeriCorps Members with up to 25 middle and high school students.
Jerry has been writing curriculum for Reach Out West End of Upland, CA, a non-profit that has a number of mentoring programs. Jerry is helping Reach Out with their TEAM Mentoring Program, a large initiative funded by the County of San Bernardino that pairs former foster and probation youth with current foster and probation youth.
Jerry has also been assisting the San Diego Hall of Champions by writing curriculum and by making presentations at their student/athlete leadership program. This effort pairs former NFL athletes with local high school athletes, providing them group mentoring lessons on leadership, goal setting, and community service.
